Shane Woolman Guest DJs We Know Nonsense, April 20th

Monday, April 20th 10am ET with Arthur Kuzmin on We Know Nonsense: Shane Woolman is a resident DJ and contributor to The Wire magazine and hosts regular radio shows on Resonance FM and Resonance Extra as well as occasional broadcasts on Radio Alhara, NTS Radio and Radio Karantina. Shane moved from New Zealand to London in his early teens, carving out a solid interest in experimental music from a young age and later going on to work for influential labels Some Bizzare and Matador Records before joining The Wire in 2002.

Always with an ear to the ground for new and unusual tracks, his sets are an eclectic mix of dub, electronic, psych, bass, hip-hop, techno, rock and funk, unearthing leftfield party bangers, unknown dub edits, archive Turkish psych and long forgotten classics. He has provided DJ support for Andy Stott, Hieroglyphic Being, Nkisi, Sun Araw, Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids, The Necks and Matana Roberts at venues including The Jazz Cafe, Cafe Oto, The Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall and The Cube in Bristol, as well as playing standalone sets at the CTM Festival (Germany, 2012), Supernormal (UK, 2016, 2017), Fields (Russia, 2019), MENT (Slovenia, 2024), New Salt (Austria, 2024) and Stihia (Uzbekistan, 2023, 2025). His guest mixes have also appeared on Threads, Balamii, Stegi, KMAH and East Village Radio.

Shane is a regular Wire contributor in print, online and on air, having interviewed or featured artists such as Laurie Anderson, Selda Bağcan, Diamanda Galás, Gaye Su Akyol, Nadah El Shazly, RP Boo, African Head Charge, Maral, Deena Abdelwahed, Mungo’s Hi Fi, King Ayisoba and El Kontessa, among many others.
