A Live Hip Hop Story By Rhasaan Oyasaba On GRAPPA 2GO October 25th

Miles Davis’ “Doo-Bop”, Tribes’ “Low End Theory”, Guru’s “Jazzmatazz”, The Roots: the early-mid 90s sparked a whole new genre, a movement toward an experimental fusion between live hip hop & funky free form jazz. During that exact time frame, Rhasaan Oyasaba—a recent college grad, a musician, a producer—finds himself moving to New York and together with Guyora Kats, Jessee Murphy, Marlon Browden, Takuya Nakamura forming by design a live hip hop ensemble under the name of Kats Family.  Friday October 25th 10PM: GRAPPA 2GO welcomes Rhasaan Oyasaba in the EVR studio to play 1997 cassette recordings live from Manhattan hotspots The Cooler & Spy Bar, while sharing his story of Kats Family and its influence on the works of Brazilian Girls, Wax Poetic featuring Norah Jones, Mark Ronson, Q-Tip
and so on — all happening here in East Village.
