Codeine’s Stephen Immerwahr on Two Hours In Tongues April 11th

Stephen Immerwahr will be joining Mister Mike to discuss the recently unearthed Bigheads Burst compilation, an early experiment in home 4-tracking which, in 1990, laid the groundwork for his pioneering NYC band, Codeine, and also includes demos from Seam’s Sooyoung Park (the cassette recently reissued by Numero Group), as well as his wide-ranging influences (Japanese pop to Italian black metal), and how the reactivated Codeine has been navigating its new life and expanded audience, and of course the complicated legacy that comes with inventing something known as “slowcore”. Immerwahr’s influence continues to figure prominently and present itself in unexpected corners of underground guitar music and beyond.
