Salsoul Legend Joe Bataan Joins Ritmo June 28th
The legendary
Joe Bataan will join
Ritmo on East Village Radio this Sunday, June 28th, from 12–2pm EST. DJ C-Town and DJ Media Mail will sit down with the King of Latin Soul for an in-depth interview, spinning selections from his iconic discography throughout the show.
Bataan’s career began in the 1960s with Fania Records, where he pioneered a groundbreaking fusion of R&B and Latin music. He later became a key figure at the underground label Ghetto Records. In 1974 he coined the term “Salsoul” (combining Salsa and Soul) for the title of his 1974 album of the same name and went on to co-found the Salsoul disco label. He also recorded “Rap-O Clap-O,” widely regarded as one of the earliest hip-hop releases. Bataan continues to tour internationally, performing to sold-out audiences and critical acclaim. Bataan will host his annual show at
Union Pool in Brooklyn on July 5th.
Tune in this Sunday for a conversation with one of Latin music’s most influential pioneers.
