Alice Coltrane Biographer Andy Beta Joins The EVR Jazz Show June 12

Andy will be joining us in the booth to discuss his detailed and enlightening new biography, Cosmic Music: The Life, Art, and Transcendence of Alice Coltrane. Published by Da Capo Press, it’s the very first full-length biography of the pioneering pianist, organist, harpist, and spiritual leader.

While Alice Coltrane was often relegated to the shadow of her husband, John Coltrane, Cosmic Music beautifully corrects the historical record. We’ll be discussing her Detroit gospel roots, her profound impact on John’s late-era masterpieces, her life as a California ashram leader, and her enduring influence on modern ambient, electronic and hip-hop music.
