Monday, June 8th at 12pm ET on Enter The Hibiscus with ur kanmani: Mdou Moctar is a globally acclaimed Tuareg guitarist and singer-songwriter from Agadez, Niger. Renowned for this explosive, virtuosic left-hand shredding, he blends traditional Saharan melodies with blistering rock and roll. His music serves as a vehicle to spotlight Tuareg culture, anticolonialism, and political struggles in West Africa. EVR listeners might also be familiar with his American bassist Mikey Coltun (also of Takaat with other Mdou’s bandmates), who hosts the great monthly Purplish Radio program on our station spotlighting modern and experimental West African music on his excellent Purplish Records label. Mdou will chat with ur kanmani, and also gift our streetside 1st Avenue booth with a solo electric set! Not to be missed, but check the archive if you do!
